Davis High homecoming is a big week full of spirit and an ongoing tradition is door decorating. On Sept. 25, Janine Widman’s sophomore class was announced the winner of the 2014 “Door Decorating and Beyond” competition.
Along with Widman, Kelly McInturf’s class won the door decorating competition and David Achimore’s class won runner up for “Door Decorating and Beyond”.
Widman’s class put different decorations on their door representing the Aztec theme such as a cactus, an eagle and different symbols lined up on each side of the door. When you go inside, a 16-foot-handmade snake was hung from the ceiling and an altar stood in the middle of the room.
“My favorite thing from Mrs. Widman’s room was the altar in the middle. It was awesome,” Darby Maguire, a door decorating judge, said.
The scoring for door decorating is all based off of a class vote in Student Government.
“First we discussed what doors and classrooms stood out to us, then we voted as a class for which doors should win or be runner up and which classrooms had the best room for “Door Decorating and Beyond”” door decorating judge Lara Vanderbilt said.
