The free event was a huge success, with everyone from young families to UC Davis students filling up the plaza to enjoy the tasty food, good music, laid-back atmosphere. The youngsters at the event entertained themselves with bubbles and chalk while waiting for their food. One of the more colorful and action-figure packed food trucks at the event, The Culinerdy Cruzer, which has been featured on The Food Network, treated customers with their futuristic comfort food. A good third of the parking lot was closed down to make room for the semi-circle of food trucks and the crowd that accompanied the event. Westlake Market, a supermarket permanently located in Westlake Plaza, came out to join the festivities with their ice cream and root beer float cart. A young customer chose between the milk teas, fruit infused teas, slushies and snacks that the Wandering Boba truck offered. As the event went on, the lines for the food trucks, including Fuzion Eatz, grew longer. The truck’s delicious aroma even attracted some non-human customers. Davis High juniors Marlena Angermann, Chenoa Devine, Gabriella Maffly and Lanna Kozlowski chat at one of the standing tables, which were set up around the plaza, by the Heavenly Dog Hot Dogs truck. Two of the littler dancers politely clapped along with the crowd after the live country bluegrass band from Woodland, Bottom Dwellers, finished one of their songs. By 6:30 p.m., the plaza was brimming with people, some of whom brought their own fold-up chairs to set up camp while enjoying the rodeo. Tee-shirts and bandanas with The Food Truck Rodeo logo were sold at the information booth manned by Melanie Gentles, one of the two editors of The Davis Dirt.
