While Break the Record Night was successful in drawing a large crowd, the Davis High men’s varsity basketball team lost to Franklin 89-72.

The home crowd roared to life as junior Glen Welch drove for an easy lay in to score the fifth point for Davis, but from then on the Wildcats out paced the Davis offense.

The Blue Devils could not find an answer for Phillip Fayne II, whose height allowed him to dunk the ball several times throughout the game.

Three point shooting assistance on offense from junior Ben Prussel was only enough to keep the Wildcat lead to 10 points at the half.

The Davis defense in the third quarter seemed to work well as the Blue Devils outscored the Wildcats 21-19 in the quarter.

A full court press implemented by Davis’ quick squad forced several turnovers and pressured Franklin for every possession and kept Davis in the game.

In the fourth quarter however, Franklin came back to life was able to break through the Davis press enroute to outscore Davis 22-13 in the quarter.

The Blue Devils were still without senior Drew Gnos for the game to a knee injury.

The record setting home crowd, numbering over 1300, never lost hope and made their presence felt during plays by the home team, especially senior Dylan Klein.

The loss places Davis at 2-9 in the Delta League while Franklin rises to 7-4.

Davis’ next meeting is at Pleasant Grove (18-6, 9-2) who beat the Blue Devils 86-62 in their last game in Davis.
