With their season winding down, the Davis High men’s soccer team hoped to take some momentum into the playoffs but instead suffered a tough 2-1 loss to the visiting Pleasant Grove Eagles.
After a slow first half, the Devils started applying pressure. After a Pleasant Grove goal, DHS played even harder, hoping to get something in the back of the net before the final whistle.
However, the Eagles again found the net before the Devils did.
Facing a 2-0 deficit, DHS rallied behind a beautiful shot on a free kick by senior Ricky Gonzales, inching themselves back into the game.
Unfortunately, time ran out before the Devils had a chance to tie the score, handing the Eagles a win.
Although DHS coach Alex Park did not see too many positives in his team’s loss, he did like the character that his team exuded.
“I did like the last ten minutes and the heart they showed, wanting to tie it up,” he said.
Moving forward Park looks to play off his team’s character.
“The good thing about this team is they have heart still, and they still want it. They understand that they have to do better and they will do better,” he said.
The Devils’ next chance to prove that is in their game against Grant on Oct. 26.
Nice story. Go Blue Devils!
