Food trucks and tents line up to the left of railroad tracks. Boots clack on the hard concrete and 105.1 FM radio plays over the loudspeakers on the portable stage.
The first “Nashville in the Neighborhood” event, hosted by KNCI radio on Railroad Street in Elk Grove on Wednesday, March 30, included performances from “I Met a Girl” singer William Michael Morgan, “Nothin’ Like You” singers Dan & Shay and “Somethin’ ‘Bout a Truck” singer Kip Moore.
Thousands of excited fans flooded the area, excited to see the all-acoustic show that sold out for the first time.
Morgan’s deep southern voice rang out over the crowd as the last straggler fans walked in; others, who had been there for more than an hour, finally got through the long food lines. Food options were limited and unhealthy, something that should be altered in future years.
Each act was a little longer than the previous one, and when Dan & Shay came onto the stage, they managed to run through a full list of songs and bantered throughout their set.
Powerful and fluid voices, like lead singer Shay’s, left the audience in awe and asking for more; guitarist Dan’s deeper vocals were good accompaniment to Shay’s incredible range.
After each act, a 10 to 15 minute interlude gave the audience a chance to walk around, get more food, check out the traveling boutique and, for those over 18, take a ride on the mechanical bull.
When Moore walked on the stage, the excitement bubbling within the audience was apparent to all. The named headliner Moore was self-assured through each of his songs. He even played an extra song, old favorite “Mary was the Marrying Kind,” in the middle of his set, at the request of an eager audience member.
The venue was fun and all the singers made their pieces feel intimate to each audience member, despite the large crowd. The performers were comfortable on stage and showcased their unique style through every heartfelt song. It made for a great show and an even greater night.
