The first Spirit Week of the year kicks off this Monday, Sept. 26. Spirit Week will give students the chance to flaunt their school spirit for the whole campus to see.
This year’s Homecoming spirit themes are: ‘Merica Monday, Trucker Tuesday, Where Did You Go Wednesday, Jet Lag Thursday, and Keep Davis Blue Friday.
Each year Student Government picks out the themes with one thing in mind.
“The goal is to bring all of the student body together,” student government member junior Jake Purves said.
“A lot of the time people won’t be wearing the same clothes,” Purves said. “But on spirit days everyone is wearing the same thing, so that’s cool. It just looks awesome when we’re all wearing the same thing and we’re united as a school.”
‘Merica Monday is the day junior Sam Murphy is looking forward to the most.
“I have so much USA gear and I love to represent,” Murphy said.
Murphy plans to wear his United States shorts, as well as lots of patriotic colors.
“I might even throw on an American Speedo. We’ll see,” Murphy said.
On Trucker Tuesday, Student Government advises students wear clothes a trucker might wear, such as a flannel shirt and jeans.
Where Did You Go Wednesday is the day to wear camouflage, while Jet Lag Thursday is a great day to wear pajamas or comfortable clothes you might take on a red-eye plane flight.
Keep Davis Blue is a play on words with an environmentalist group’s slogan of ‘Keep Tahoe Blue’– which Purves appreciates.
“It’s really funny,” Purves said.
Student Government would like all students to wear blue clothing to show school pride.
“Last year it was really cool to see the whole school dressed up,” Purves said. He hopes this year’s spirit is “just as strong, or stronger.”
