Decades before he was even principal of Davis High, William Brown discovered the power of Blue Devil Pride (BDP).
As a junior playing football for Grant High School, Brown came with his team to play against Davis.
“Everybody knew we were going to crush the Blue Devils. Everybody except the Blue Devil team,” Brown said.
The pure positive energy being emitted by the Blue Devils, which included the football team, the dance team, the cheerleaders and the crowd, was channeled into the football players, and helped them manage an unexpected victory.
When Brown became the DHS principal in 2013, his first goal was simply to get to know everyone at the school. Later, he focused on increasing student enthusiasm and excitement about the school. And, according to band teacher Thomas Slabaugh, he was successful.
“He creates an environment where everyone is engaged and happy to be [at school],” Slabaugh said.
This year for Homecoming, Brown wants to see BDP at its full power. He encourages students to go to the parade and to the game.
“They’ve created a wave and we should all be on it,” Brown said.
Brown looks forward to seeing an energetic crowd, a lot of BDP and a Blue Devil win at the game on Friday, Sept. 30.
