Local musician Bill Fairfield was honored with the Harmony in Our Lives award presented by the Davis School Arts Foundation on the afternoon of Jan. 27 for his contributions to the Davis music community.
LISTEN to Fairfield playing piano at the Harmony in Our Lives Concert:
Fairfield has resided in Davis for over 45 years and founded the Home for the Holidays benefit concert and his band Mumbo Gumbo.
“I was always intrigued by how music can grab you, and how personal emotions can be shared communally with other people through music,” Fairfield said.
LISTEN to Fairfield speak on the role music has had in his life:
Several music groups performed at the event, including the César Chávez and Korematsu Combined Chorus, the Davis High Madrigals and Mariachi Puente, playing songs such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” and “Loch Lomond.”
This award has existed for 30 years, and many of the performers have participated in it for many years.
“I believe I’ve done it since I was in… fourth grade,” said Claudia Peri, a Davis High sophomore who performed with the Madrigals choir.
The Harmony in Our Lives event brought together people of all ages and parts of the community. “Bringing people together through music is what I’m all about,” Fairfield said.
