The Davis High women’s lacrosse team lost 17-7 against San Ramon Valley High on March 9 at home for a non-conference game.
Within the first 10 minutes of the game, San Ramon Valley scored, followed by another three consecutive points. By the end of the first half, the Wolves were in the lead 14-0.
Although the Wolves put a large number up before halftime, the Lady Blue Devils did not give up and pushed to maintain strong defense throughout the game.
Eight minutes into the second half, sophomore Colette Quaas scored the first goal for the Devils, which was followed by another goal by senior Sophia Young two minutes after.
Junior Amara Higgins believes that the team usually does better in the second half of their games compared to the first half.
“We knew going into the game that they were a really good team and it was in our heads but by the second half we were able to get it out of our heads and fix the small mistakes,” Higgins said. “We learned what we needed to fix during halftime and implemented it into the second half.”
Junior Jessie Finkelor thinks that the team’s determination and energy may have affected the outcome of the game.
“I think we could’ve been closer [to a tie] if we had realized earlier on that we should play our hardest even if we are losing,” Finkelor said.
The Devils put up a strong fight but in the end fell to the Wolves. Higgins and Finkelor both look forward to the season that still lies ahead of them.
“League games will be a little difficult this year because all of the teams are really good but once we fix the little things we will be golden,” Higgins said.
The Lady Blue Devils will play their next non-conference game on March 11 against Del Oro High School in Loomis, CA.
