The Davis High JV women’s volleyball team defeated the Cosumnes Oaks WolfPack on Oct. 11.
The Blue Devils started off strong, finishing off set one with a leading score of 25-9.
The second set was much more back and forth, with the score tied at 23-23 when the devils called a time out.
The WolfPack won the second set with a lead of 25-24.
“Even after losing a couple points we were still able to come back,” junior outside hitter Ella Heringer said.
“[In situations like these] we work together to over communicate, even announcing the smallest things to my team,” sophomore setter Maya Delaney said.
Going into the final set the Blue Devils tried to keep a positive mindset.
“It was easy to stay calm because the team is always so energetic during games,” Heringer said. Heringer’s persistent positivity paid off and she earned back to back serves in the third set.
DHS managed to lead early in the third set, and was able to fend off the Wolfpack, winning 15-5.
“Tonight was more of a mentality game […] having a negative mentality isn’t going to help anyone, especially the team,” sophomore outside hitter Marlena vanBoxtel said.
