The Davis High JV football team lost their home game against the Jesuit Marauders 42-12 on Oct. 22.
The Marauders struck first, following a fumble by Davis on the opening kickoff for a quick six points, and quickly returned with another touchdown, bringing the score to 12-0 late in the first quarter.
Freshman Daniel Kamara was able to answer though, with a 66-yard touchdown run to end the quarter at 12-6.
The Marauders opened the second quarter with another touchdown, bringing the score to 18-6, but an interception on Jesuit’s next offense possession by sophomore Royce Hammond kept the score where it was to end the half.
Despite the Devil’s many efforts to bring themselves back into the game, Jesuit kept the momentum, leading 26-6 to end the third quarter.
Kamara scored his second touchdown of the night, but after a failed onside kick attempt by the Devils, the Marauders struck again increasing their lead to 42-12 with less than two minutes remaining in the game.
The players notice the steps that need to be taken to ensure a better result next game.
“We just need to prepare more and focus during practice,” freshman quarterback Braullio Azevedo said. “We could’ve won this game if it wasn’t for those early mistakes.”
“We made some mistakes early but we battled back and we put some points on the board. Those mistakes just cost us,” freshman Jayden Higgens said.
