Tree Davis held its first legacy celebration on Oct. 23 to highlight its work and honor involved community members at Memorial Grove.
Tree Davis has been planting, monitoring and caring for trees in Davis since 1992. Their main mission is to teach people of the community of Davis how to plant trees.
A desert willow was planted at the event to recognize Tree Davis volunteers.
This is the first event Tree Davis has done and are trying to make it an annual event. Many people attended; some were volunteers and others who had a tree memorialized for a loved one.
“We want to bring people together,” said Diane Crumbley, grant writer for the board of Tree Davis.
Tree Davis wants to change Memorial Grove into a “climate-ready landscape” by planting trees that are drought-resistant and that attract pollinators such as butterflies and birds.
Tree Davis planted 394 trees just last year. “Its a frustrating conundrum we are in, losing more than we are planting,” said Dan Shor, a member of the Tree Davis board.
