On Nov. 6, Davis High’s cross country team competed with many other schools to see who would qualify for the Sac Joaquin Finals. 91 DHS students participated in the meet, located in Frogtown, CA.
As with any meet, the athletes found it challenging. “There were a lot more hills than I thought [there were going to be] and it was very dusty,” varsity runner Amie Huang said.
Huang is proud of how she did. “It was a very tough course, [and] it was my first time running the three mile course there, so I’m happy with my time.”
Sophomore Laura Wong, along with other freshman and sophomore women, had to wait until 3:25 p.m. for her race. Wong also faced some challenges during the race. “I started sprinting too early […] and ran out of energy, but then I just kept going,” Wong said.
Wong ended up placing sixth among the DHS freshman and sophomore women and will get to run in the upcoming race.
The varsity women’s team placed second, JV placed third, and the freshman/sophomore women’s team placed first.
The varsity men’s team placed third, JV placed fifth and third, the sophomore men placed fourth and first, and the freshman men placed third and second.
Senior Leo Hymus was happy with his performance this weekend, “Frogtown is my favorite course of the year. I love where it is located and the competitive atmosphere,” he said.
Hymus is happy with his time saying that “[he] always races [his] best when [he is] there.”
