Davis High women’s water polo team advances to championship game after semi finals win

The Davis High women’s water polo team beat St. Mary’s High, 16-0 on Nov. 9.
The semifinal game took place at Johansen High and was the last game before the Sac-Joaquin women’s water polo playoff championship game.
The team started the match with scoring a goal early in the game, an improvement compared to the quarterfinal game. The team was able to hold onto a nine point lead at half time, leaving the score 9-0.
Towards the end of the game, the team held onto their dominant start by finishing off, 16-0.
Junior Claire Miller believes the semifinal win, “is a big confidence booster and [is] really good for the team… it boosts morale before our finals game,” Miller said.
Teamwork within the athletes has boosted their confidence and aggression.
Junior Malaya Wright believes the team’s chemistry, “gives our team reliance on one another… we can rely on each other for assistance when we need it,” Wright said.
Wright and Miller feel confident going into the championship game. “We’ve worked really hard all season to improve as individuals … I think we’re really ready,” Miller said.
The finals game is on Nov. 13 at the Roseville Aquatic Center. DHS is playing against Granite Bay High for the championship title.
Davis is currently ranked fourth in California and has a win record of 26-3 for the season.
