The Davis High Men’s water polo team lost 9-10 to Jesuit on Nov. 10. The loss marks the end of a winning season for the team.
“Everyone was super confident going into the game,” senior Dennis Fineberg said.
However, DHS fell behind early, with the first quarter ending 1-4.
“We just weren’t super . . . organized or aware during that first quarter,” Fineberg said. “We kind of dug ourselves a hole.”
The second quarter saw DHS and Jesuit both score four points, bringing the score to 5-9.
DHS defense managed to keep Jesuit from only scoring one more the rest of the game, but in the end was not able to get quite enough points to win.
“It was so frustrating,” senior Ben Myo-Flores said. “Everyone on the team, I knew they were going their hardest . . . I felt, like, the fire in their souls.”
According to Myo-Flores, the team did not give up hope during the game. Players on the bench stood up and were “screaming, yelling” every time DHS scored.
The team’s support and enthusiasm at Wednesday’s game was indicative of the team’s close bond as a whole, according to both Fineberg and Myo-Flores.
“We’re basically like family,” Myo-Flores said.
Looking back on the season, both players agree that it was an overall success.
“We did lose a couple of games, but we all played really well,” Fineberg said. “I’m really proud of everybody on the team.”
