Student government is selling candy grams at Davis High on Feb. 3, 4 and 7 during lunch. The candies are three dimensional rose shaped lollipops and are being sold for 50 cents each. They will be given to the intended recipient during fourth period on Feb. 11.
Students have the option to write a personalized note and decorate the gram with various crafts. Candy grams can be sent anonymously or with a name attached.
Junior Daisy Andrade appreciated the creativity of the program and enjoyed decorating the memorable gift. “I felt happy and appreciative when I received (the candy gram),” Andrade said.
The thoughtful piece of candy is more than just a treat. “They represent our community and friendship, it allows us to show that we don’t take each other for granted,” said Sophia Buduchina, committee head of the candy gram program.
The tradition of student government selling candy grams at DHS has been around for well over seven years and has already been sold two times this year.
Previously, more than 170 candies were sold. This time around, student government is anticipating selling more than 300 candies.
Although there are high amounts of purchases, the student government does not earn any profit from the program. Instead the goal of the candy gram is to spread kindness and for students to “enjoy a note and fun treat,” said Elise Bauman, communication commissioner for student government.
With the event taking place close to Valentine’s Day, the percentage of students buying candy is high. The additional cheap incentive of the candy grams will also increase the expected turnout.
Candies can be given to anyone and, “sometimes teachers get some. They are so shocked that someone thought of them … it’s so amazing to see,” Buduchina said.
