Davis High women’s varsity and JV lacrosse teams each played homes games against Christian Brothers High for the first conference games of the season on March 2.
The JV team played first at 5:30 p.m., setting the tone by winning 12 to six and varsity continued the night’s success with a resounding 16 to two win.
Scoring for the varsity Blue Devils were Tory Agnew, Alicia Holman Evans, Devon Morris, Colette Quaas, Katie McMullen, Devin Hawkes, Gabriella Laugero, Peyton Schoen, Grace Scheuring and Grace Fabionar.
“I think we did a good job, really working on transitions and just getting some practice in our plays. I feel like everyone contributed to helping on defense and on attack,” senior Devon Morris said.
“I think we did pretty well … It’s the beginning of this season, obviously, and we’re still getting into the groove of everything, but overall, I think we’ve been performing well, and I think this is a really solid team,” goal keeper Stella Cardenas said.
This was the team’s third game and first league game of the season.
“I feel pretty confident in our league, or just our season in general. I feel like we have a strong team this year, and I feel like the teams that we’re going against will be good competition. I feel like we can do well as long as we play as a team and play well,” Morris said.
This was the first varsity game for goalie, Semmer Ali, who tended goal in the second half. “It is my first league game. It’s also my first game with the varsity team this year, so it was exciting. Stella’s great. The coaches are great,” said Ali. “I started playing sophomore year. But COVID happened,” said Ali. “So (I’ve only been playing) a couple of months.”
The Blue Devils followed their victory at home with a victory the following day, when the varsity team won 14 to nine at Justin Siena, in Napa.
