The Davis High JV football team fell to Consumnes Oaks High in a 34-18 defeat on homecoming night. After falling behind early, Davis’ comeback attempt fell short.
Davis got off to a fast start by capitalizing on a short field with a 12-yard touchdown catch by sophomore Tyson Zuniga. However, Consumnes Oaks immediately matched this score with a touchdown of their own on an 82-yard kick-off return. With both teams failing to convert on extra points the game would be tied at 6-6 at the end of the first quarter.
Consumnes Oaks would then take control of the second quarter and go into the half with a 14-6 lead. This moment continued in the first half of the third quarter as Consumnes Oak scored a third touchdown and for the second time in the game failed to convert on a two-point conversion.
Being down 20-6 Davis needed to rally and bring the game back within reach. Two receiving touchdowns by Zuniga and Sophomore Sammy Sousa both thrown by Sophomore Saloman Rodriguez brought the game within 2. However, Davis failed to score again and ultimately lost the game 34-18.
The players realize that they need to work hard and get back on track. “We just got to stay focused, we need to evolve as a team, and learn from our mistakes,” Sophomore Jacob Raney said.
“One of the biggest focuses is making sure we develop push on the offensive line, our run game was non existent,” head coach Alfredo Pineda said.
