Davis High’s 2023 Winter Ball was held on Jan. 14 in the North Gym, boasting a Great Gatsby inspired theme and decor.
The dance is typically semi-formal and organized by and for the junior class through their elected president and vice president.
“(It is) kind of like our big dance before prom for seniors and our big dance for juniors for the year,” junior class president Sarah Fingerman said.
The dance itself was heavily restructured following the Friday Night Festival, emphasizing changes in music, decorations, and check-ins.
“We switched up the DJ. We got a new person, and they played some really sick music,” Fingerman said.
The change in DJ was noted by students, as most found the music and crowd ambiance to be more lively than previous dances.
“I have been having the time of my life at this dance,” junior Aidan Cribari said. “The crowd encouragement from the DJ (are) a lot better as well.”
The dance appeared to be a resounding success in the eyes of the junior and senior attendees.
“I like the mosh pits a lot. It was pretty fun. It got a bit sweaty and all. It was pretty good overall,” junior Arya Ramakrishnan said.
Like all other student government events, activities director Anthony Vasquez was at the head of the ball’s organization and preparation.
“Every dance is at least three hours of set up on that day. Really, about a month or two of planning; organizing, planning purchases, completing contracts with vendors, innovating on previous dances,” Vasquez said.
The main intention of Winter Ball was to increase student participation and satisfaction. The hundreds of resounding smiles and laughs point toward this goal’s success.
“We did it, and even though there were a bunch of issues just with everything, we made it through and the dance was good,” Fingerman said.
