The varsity girls field hockey team took another win to start off the season strong for their first home game this season. Excited for the game, many fans and family members cheered on the Blue Devils to victory.
The game started off on a slow run, with both teams struggling to put the ball into the goal. Both put their best efforts to score but the efforts were pretty equal.
During halftime, the Blue Devils got together to have a debrief of what was going on in the game.
The second half kicked off with a scrambling third quarter, with both teams alternating between defense and offense aggressively.
Up until even the halfway mark of the third quarter, there was no progression in the overall score of the game. However, one of the captains, junior Aurora Hogan scored the first point of the game for the Blue Devils.
As the team celebrated, their morals rose, and with about 4 minutes left in the quarter, junior Emma Withrow scored a dazzling second point for the Blue Devils. The third quarter ended with a buzz from the crowd, all waiting for the last quarter of the game.
Captain junior Hayley Smith continued to make many amazing defensive plays to deny the Broncos from scoring attempts. She had a total of two steals this game.
“I’ve been playing a different position than last year but I really love it… and I’m proud of how quickly I adapted to it as well,” Smith said.
The fourth quarter started off with no change in the score, the Blue Devils and Broncos battling to make a goal.
Then through sheer determination, the Blue Devils scored the third and fourth point in the last few minutes of the game. The third was by senior Daniela Torreiro and the fourth was scored by sophomore Bridget Berland.
“We were able to maintain possession for a lot of the game and implement skills that our coaches had taught us,” Smith said.
The Blue Devil field hockey team proved that their reign of a winning streak wouldn’t be easily taken away.
and most importantly…
Go Blue Devils!
