The start of the cross country (XC) season is also the start of new friendships for many runners at DHS.
Davis High’s XC team has already started their season, with preseason beginning in the summer. However, the athletes are not only there to run, the sport is also a great way to meet new people.
The team has many opportunities to bond. “We do pretty regular pasta feeds before meets,” senior Laura Wong said. During these get-togethers, the team brings lots of food to share and creates a big feast. Every runner grabs a plate and eats with their teammates.
However, these potlucks are not the only gatherings for the team.
During the summer, the team attended a three-day long camp, where they ran, swam, and participated in team bonding activities.
“We did an activity with a giant rope to show how the entire team is interconnected,” junior Trevor Mills said.
The rope and other activities demonstrated that although the team is large, everyone has a responsibility to support each other.
“I got to meet a lot of teammates and have fun in the pool, and I also had fun running,” Mills added.
But the fun doesn’t stop at DHS. The team also traveled to the Donner Summit together.
“We did the Pacific Crest Trail run as a team and that was really, really fun,” said Wong. During their visit, they also spent time at the beach.
“I have met a lot of new people on the team, it has been really fun to get to know people,” said Wong.
