Homecoming week offers many opportunities for students and teachers to participate in fun activities and events. One of these activities is door decorating, a Davis High tradition.
Math teacher Michael Murphy often participates in door-dec. Murphy has been teaching at DHSfor six years, and has seen his fair share of creative designs.
“One year students tried to do like kind of a 3-D door modeling with all the materials we had,” Murphy said, “They made a basketball hoop with netting on it, we used yarn for that, that was kind of interesting.”
Murphy plans on doing door decorating this year as well, but doesn’t have any specific plans in mind. “I leave it up to the students to really come up with their ideas of what they want to do.”
Agriculture teacher Alexander Hess has also done door-dec in the past. Hess says that he isn’t participating this year because he doesn’t have a 4th period and describes this as “a major bummer cause it’s a really fun thing to do.”
Hess has been teaching at DHS for 14 years and has always had a lot of fun doing door decoration with his students. “Some years they’re a little crazy, like their idea is a little bit bigger than what they can pull off,” Hess said. “I just remember how crazy fun it is.”
