Students and staff came dressed to impress for Thursday’s spirit day: jersey day. Going with the homecoming theme of “Hoco Wrapped”, the song for jersey day was “All Star” by Smash Mouth.
“I like wearing jerseys, it makes me feel fun and festive, and it makes me feel nostalgic from when I was in high school,” English teacher Spencer Elliott said.
Many people wore jerseys of their favorite sports teams whether it be, football, basketball, or baseball. The most popular jerseys, worn by many, were football jerseys from a variety of teams.
There were also many Sacramento Kings, San Francisco 49ers and San Francisco Giants jerseys as students and teachers supported their local NBA, NFL and MLB teams.
“I grew up in San Francisco so I always went to the Giants games, so I got this at one of the games and they’re my favorite baseball team,” sophomore Isla Urena said.
Students stated that they loved seeing the variety of teams and sports that were being represented with the jerseys. People all over campus were able to show love for their favorite sports teams in a unique way of expression.
School spirit was shown through past Davis High powder puff jerseys or the sparkly and unique jerseys of the DHS dance team.
“[My jersey] is from the powder puff so I’m really showing my BDP and my school spirit,” junior Nathalie Stem said.
Many participants of the spirit day even stated that their jerseys had special meanings to them, whether they had been passed down from parents or had an important connection with their family heritage.
“When I was little my dad used to let me wear [this jersey] and I feel like I have a lot of memories connected with it,” sophomore Nadiya Bayan said.
“My grandma who actually lives in Italy got me this jersey, so it comes from Europe, and it just has a familiar significance for me,” sophomore Teo Anastasio said, referring to his 2006 Italy World Cup jersey.
