When the Davis High JV football team ended the first quarter in last Friday’s game against the Pleasant Grove Eagles, things started to seem difficult for the Blue Devils to come back from a 0-7 score. But after great teamwork and a few amazing throws, Davis came back and won their Homecoming game.
“They looked stronger and way better than us,” wide receiver Jackson Brant said. “But our defense was on lockdown for the rest of the game, so props to them!”
But the offense can also be credited for supporting this victory, as quarterback David Dirksen threw a huge pass to Brant at the four yard line to later secure a touchdown.
After a kick tied the game, the Blue devils were able to convert the tie into a winning position, but not without any close calls.
When Davis came back into possession with the ball, an unfortunate series of downs left them at fourth down, their last chance to make it back into first down territory. Thankfully, a nice pass to Brannon Hicklin led to a first down and some new hope into the possession.
Later in the game, another amazing catch from Dirksen to Brant pushed them into the lead, with a shocking 18 yard touchdown pass.
“I just had to back up and find green grass,” Brant said, “I didn’t realize how important that catch was.”
But towards the end of the game, things became stressful yet again for Davis, as they faced an attempt for a touchdown from the Eagles at the 7 yard line. But lockdown defense led to a tackle from freshman Alex Guzman to save Davis’ 13-7 lead.
“It was an exciting game to watch,” Benjamin Feagle said. “It’s always nice to see the Blue Devils win”.
