Davis High’s Varsity football team clashed with the Pleasant Grove Eagles, losing in a homecoming matchup. The final score stood at 16-10 with Davis’ senior CJ Millican shining throughout the game.
Oct. 20 marked DHS’s homecoming game of the 2023-24 school year. The theme for the night was Pink Out, honoring those who battled or are battling breast cancer.
“We’re going to show up, be ready to play and be ready to execute,” varsity coach Nick Garratt said.
The whole team was electrified going into the game. “This atmosphere is just different, it’s exciting,” senior Sawyer Schoen said.
The game started quickly, with Pleasant Grove scoring a 57 yard touchdown in the first two minutes. After going down 13-0, Davis bounced back with a field goal in the 2nd quarter.
Shortly after Pleasant Grove scored another field goal in the 4th quarter, Senior CJ Millican ran in for a touchdown to make the score 16-10. Davis failed to come back in the final minutes, ending the game with an interception by Pleasant Grove.
With two minutes and 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Millican hopped off the field with an ankle injury. Garratt was forced to make the decision on whether or not to keep him in the game.
“He gives everything on the field. I had to decide; do I put him in with a hurt ankle?” Garratt said.
Milican was not the only player who stood out that night. Garratt praised the dedication of the seniors AJ Hasson and Gio Ruiz.
“I really would just give it to the seniors. The seniors all and all try to give everything on that field,” Garratt said, “At the end, we just didn’t finish with what we wanted.”
