The Davis High men’s soccer team went toe to toe with Vacaville High on Friday, Dec 8, winning with a solid 3 – 0 win.

The first half was majority back and forth play, with Davis getting more chances on goal. Roughly a quarter way through, Vacaville fouls right outside their penalty box, giving Davis an excellent chance for a goal, but no ball hit the net.

Close calls happened on both sides of the field, with Vacaville hitting off the crossbar with ten minutes until halftime. Davis responded with a ball that crossed the end line, but the referee called a foul before it was shot.

The first half concluded with a 0 – 0 score.

“The backline held up pretty well and we locked up their tough attackers,” junior Mario Romero said.

The Blue Devils came onto the field again after the break searching for blood. A major foul occurred within Vacaville’s penalty box, leading to the first penalty kick of the game. The shot made by senior Dylan Ehlers was deflected by the keeper, leading to a scuffle between the defense and Davis offense by the goalpost. It was crossed back in and finished by junior Joshua Morris.

The Blue Devil crowd was in an uproar, but the Bulldogs’ parents and coaches didn’t like the call. Screaming at the referee for the goal to be withdrawn, the Vacaville coach was yellow-carded within the minute.

15 minutes to go, junior Cody Walsh dribbled past the defense and keeper, and with an open shot on goal, he tapped the ball across the line.

These successful attempts were succeeded by a banger by Morris off of a beautiful assist by junior Griffin Feldt.

“I think we executed really well in the second half,” Romero said.
