The decision to get the COVID-19 vaccine has become an important topic in the Davis community. Getting a COVID vaccine has a lot of essential benefits, such as lessening the risk of getting the disease. It keeps you safe from variants of COVID and protects you from spreading it to others.
Although the community risk level of getting covid is low, it is far from zero. According to Yolo County statistics, there are around 7.9 cases of weekly covid admissions.
Junior Alex Kieffer believes that covid is irrelevant now. “Davis is very safe-oriented. The moms want their kids to get the vaccines,” Kieffer said. I am getting my 5th shot tomorrow and I don’t see the point of getting more than 3.”
Kieffer said that as long as people have at least 2-3 covid shots they will be okay. “Realistically I don’t care how many covid shots a person has because COVID is basically gone now.”
COVID cases in Davis spike occasionally, but most of the time they stay at a low percentage, due to the fact that most of the residents have gotten vaccinated. In California as a whole, 85.2 percent of the population is vaccinated.
Junior Shaked Tal feels safe in Davis due to the amount of people who have been vaccinated. “I feel like most people I know have gotten the COVID vaccine and that it’s been spread around our town quite a lot,” Tal said.
Tal does not feel the need to get another COVID shot because he feels safe enough with the vaccines he has already received. “I don’t hear much about people with cases of COVID anymore so I assume that that has to do with how successful the vaccine has been.”
