Friday, April 12 was a huge success for Davis High’s Badminton Team. Playing Armijo High School, the Blue Devils took the win with a final score of 14 to 1, for the second night in a row.

Captain Iryna Monastyrska has been on the team since sophomore year and dominated in both games Friday.

Monastyrska was content with the outcome. “So far we’re doing pretty good. I don’t think we’ve lost a single game yet and none of the games have gone into three sets, so our team is doing pretty well,” Monastyrska said.

Monastyrska did well in both of her singles games, helping bring the win to Davis. “The first set I won 21-16 and the second one I won 21-13,” she said.

As for her doubles match with junior Katie Tu, the partners won the first match with a score of 21-9 followed by a second set of 21-4.

Also collecting points for DHS was captain Jenniffer Lee.

Lee has noticed the progression of the team this season. “[My favorite part is] probably watching all of the new players grow, it’s really inspiring,” Lee said.

The junior prevailed in both of her singles matches, winning 21-12 in the first set, and 21-6 in the second. With her partner Kana Hayashi, the two won both of their doubles sets with scores of 21-7 and 21-9.

Also taking the court Friday was doubles partners Jenna Elms and Nathalie Stem.

The senior and junior duo won both sets, with scores of 21-3 and 21-2.

“[The match went] really good, Nathalie and I were really using the court well and our placement was also good,” Elms said.

Elms was happy with the team’s performance. “I definitely think it’s going well, we always play better I think when we’re at home,” she said.
