Davis High flag football fell 50-7 to the McClatchy Lions at home on Tuesday, September 3rd.

The game started off hot with an interception from junior Sonia Clayton, helping Davis secure the ball.

Despite this, McClatchy quarterback Daisy Throckmorton was too much for Davis to handle. Throckmorton’s powerful throws fueled the Lions’ offense.

With such a big gap to make up at halftime, Davis persisted. After McClatchy recorded another touchdown in the beginning of the second half, Davis had their turn, and finally scored.

On passes from sophomore quarterback Landry Clark, the team managed to get on the board with their first seven points.

“Having [Clark’s] presence back on the field was a lot, definitely more reassuring obviously, with her great attitude and experience as a player,” senior Pearline Qin said.

Clark, whose arm was still heavily wrapped up from her wrist injury, threw the ball to Qin. With a defender right on her, Qin managed to grab the ball and she raced to the endzone, finally putting Davis on the scoreboard.

After the touchdown, Davis added to their six point total with a one-point conversion.

Clark successfully threw the ball to sophomore Maggie Lubell, who caught it perfectly in the endzone as her teammates cheered.

Although the touchdown wasn’t enough to keep it a close game, the team’s support for each other runs deep. “Obviously after scoring that touchdown, my teammates running up to me and cheering for me was the greatest feeling ever,” Qin said.
