Davis High School’s women’s varsity volleyball team suffered a nail-biting loss at home against Oak Ridge on senior night Oct 16th, 3-2.
The senior night festivities kicked off by honoring the four seniors on the team: Valerie Cole, Rowan Reising, Heidi Murphy and Kaylie Adams. The seniors thanked their friends and family before giving advice to future varsity players.
They also praised their team manager of three years, senior LJ Dixon.
“This team means so much to me,” Dixon said. “I have seen their skills enhance over time and they are like a second family to me.”
The first set started with a surge of energy from DHS players and ended with a powerful spike from junior Mia Salvemini. The Blue Devils won the set 25-21.
DHS fought hard but fell behind after the second and third set, resulting in a 2-1 score going into the fourth.
The Davis fans brought the energy with supporting chants ringing throughout the gymnasium in the fourth set. That energy, paired with Cole’s unstoppable defensive plays in the back row, led the team to a 25-19 victory, forcing a fifth and final set.
“I made sure to give 100% effort into every play because I knew what this game meant to the team,” Cole said.
Although DHS lost in the fifth set, coach Julie Crawford had a very positive outlook on the match.
“[The team] fought really hard and battled it out every single point until the end,” Crawford said.
