The men’s varsity basketball team loses 69-61 to Christian Brothers in the annual Foundation Game on Nov. 20.
The yearly Foundation Game supports the Dale Lacky Scholarship Program, recognizing student-athletes excelling in academics and athletics. All of the proceeds fund athletic scholarships totaling $25,000 annually.
The game began with Davis taking possession but Christian Brothers scored the first points.
Junior Ahmere Bradley dominated the court throughout the first quarter. With several turnovers and intense rebounding, Bradley played a major role in Davis’ huge lead in the first quarter.
“Bradley is a monster and he’s just getting started,” head coach Stephen Smith said.
Christian Brothers opened the second quarter leading 21-18, but the teams tied up soon after.
Christian Brother pulled ahead with consecutive three-pointers but a critical three-pointer from freshman Rhys Crawford helped the Devils keep pace. “It’s hard to believe he’s a freshman when he plays basketball,” Smith said.
The second quarter ended with Christian Brothers leading 44-35.
Christian Brothers led by 10 points through the third and fourth quarters. Davis tried to close the gap with multiple three-pointers but the game ended with Davis down 69-61.
“I wasn’t expecting us to foul that many times in one game,” Smith said. “You just can’t play a basketball game with that many fouls but it’s the first game and we learned a lesson.”
