Davis women’s varsity basketball lost to the Christian Brother Falcons 34-56 in the annual Peter J. Saco Sac-Joaquin Section Foundation Games on Nov. 20.

The night began with a speech about the history behind the Foundation Game.

The game supports the Dale Lacky Scholarship Program which recognizes student-athletes excelling in academics and athletics. The annual event was started in 2002 to raise money for athletic scholarships and to honor former CIF Sac-Joaquin Section commissioner Peter J.Saco.

The Foundation Game is not part of the official season, meaning the Devils loss won’t count.

“Christian Brothers is a top team,” head coach Heather Highshoe said. “We were able to run the floor well but just need to work on our decision-making on offense.”

Highshoe is excited for the rest of the season. This is the first year that the team will be playing in the more competitive Sierra Foothill League.

“Going into the SFL, every game will be a battle,” Highshoe said. “[Davis is] always up for a challenge and would much rather play a competitive game than blow out another team.”
