The Blue Devils women’s varsity soccer team kicked off their preseason on Dec. 6, winning 3-1 against Vista del Lago. This triumph puts Davis on good footing for the rest of the season.

“This year’s league is very good and we just want to be prepared for the physicality and speed of the game,” head coach Sarah Stone said.

Vista de Lago went into the game with one win under their belt against Whitney, looking for another success.

The game started with both teams exchanging possessions. After a close shot on goal by Vista, Davis tightened up and made passes, spreading out their opponent’s defense.

Davis’ efforts paid off with a header slicing past the keeper’s hands by forward junior Madison Lujan off of a well-placed corner kick by senior Kaliani Compton.

Not letting their foot off the gas pedal, senior Miya Alamares scored twice from assists by Lajuna and junior Caitlyn Garcia.

The second half started off slow, with possession being juggled around until a critical foul was called on the Blue Devils. This shifted the power towards Vista, who became more aggressive.

A score from a congested goalie box on Davis’ goal in the last 4 minutes wrapped up the game, with a score 3-1.

“[The freshman] came onto the field and absolutely crushed it,” Alamares said. “That’s just the key moments: seeing them come on and not care that they were freshman.”

The Blue Devils are looking for another success, facing off against Franklin on Dec. 12.

“[We’ll work on] being sharper defensively in certain situations,” Stone said. “[We need] to capitalize on our opportunities.”
