The Davis High varsity women’s wrestling team battled hard but ultimately fell to the Whitney Wildcats with a final score of 30-6 on Jan. 8.

The match featured four close contests, with Whitney edging out Davis in all but one, after combinations of strong technique and timely pins.

Senior Brooklin Cienfuegos dominated the first fight, securing a pin in under 30 seconds.

“I wish I could have shot at least once, but it didn’t happen, and that’s fine,” Cienfuegos said. “For next time, I think I could improve my technique and stay off my knees earlier. It’s a bad habit I need to break.”

With DHS leading 6-0, the second match was more evenly matched. Both wrestlers exchanged multiple attacks, but in the end, Davis tapped, granting Whitney their first win of the night.

Junior Mia Perez entered the third match and was immediately faced with a series of out-of-bounds calls that interrupted the flow, allowing Whitney to emerge victorious.

Whitney secured a win in the final match, ending the event 30-6.
