Davis high’s men’s soccer team dominated Rocklin 3-1, on senior night Jan 6.

Rocklin had taken an early lead, however freshmen Cruz Gonzalez rose up and headed the ball home off a corner kick, and the Devils entered half tied 1-1.

Senior captain Josh Morris had been creating opportunities for the blue devils all game long: taking on defenders, shooting and crossing the ball into the box.

In the 36th minute senior captain Mario Romero, the blue devil’s leading scorer and the top scorer in the Sierra Foothill League, passed the ball overtop of two Rocklin defenders to a waiting Morris who slotted the ball home, giving Davis a lead it would never relinquish.

The Blue Devils came out firing in the second half, a drastic shift from their first half performance.

This sudden change was expected.

“We knew we were gonna dominate in the second half and we did,” varsity men’s soccer head coach Alex Park said.

The single Rocklin goal came in the early minutes of the first half as the Blue Devils were fighting the wind.

Park explained “the fact that the wind was so polar opposite,” made everything that much more difficult.

30 minutes later, senior Oliver Fleet’s free kick landed at the feet of Romero, who kicked the ball into the back of the net, securing the win for Davis 3-1.

“Senior night, we had to come out, we had to show up, and I think we did,” senior Johan Saeij-Torreiro said.
