Varsity Softball fought hard against River City, ultimately winning 8-1 on Feb. 20.

Davis entered the game slowly, with River City making the first score within the first inning.

However, Davis began to gain momentum in the third inning, when sophomore Kaytlin LeBar-Triepke brought in two runs, allowing sophomore Lily Lingbloom and freshman Gracie Martinez to score.

“I believe our freshman Gracie Martinez has done so well so far especially with making sure that everyone keeps the energy up but also in the field,” junior Taylor McNair said. “She has made so many great plays and is always on base and being aggressive.”

Sophomores Sophia Bassett and Isabel Chavez-Berman, freshman Lalya Duarte, and LeBar-Triepke, also scored in the third, adding a total of four more runs for Davis.

Entering the fourth inning with a 6-1 lead, Davis maintained their strong defense and scored two more runs, shutting out River City and preventing them from scoring another run.

“Our pitchers played extremely well since they were able to hit their spots and make plays,” junior Kylie Toa said.

Davis took a victory, finishing 8-1. “I think as a team we played really well, especially with how we’re still getting to know each other as a team,” McNair said. “We kept our cheers up and we made sure our defense and offense was strong.”
