Davis High varsity men’s lacrosse took on the top-ranked Oak Ridge Trojans on April 10, ultimately losing 21-7.
Oak Ridge struck early with two quick goals, but Davis responded after a timeout, closing the gap to 2-1. There were numerous fouls in the first quarter, but a crucial save from junior goalie Jonas Orr kept Davis within reach. However, Oak Ridge found their rhythm and led 5-1 by the end of the first quarter.
“We all put in a lot of effort […] we kept our heads up and we kept playing for all four quarters,” junior Leho Kim said.
Senior Jamie Macdonald’s coast-to-coast effort and Leho Kim’s composed finish helped cut the deficit to 7-4, in the final minutes of the first half.
Despite the loss, Kim praised the team’s effort. “I think we played with a lot of heart today, knowing that we were short on numbers,” Kim said.
Though Oak Ridge maintained control throughout the second half, Davis continued to fight, adding 3 more goals.
“The first time we played these guys, we scored one goal and they scored 19. This was a much better showing,” head coach Nick Juri said. “Every play was a new play […] we weren’t sulking; we were trying to learn and move forward.”
With a vast improvement from their previous 19-1 loss, Davis looks to build on this performance Tuesday at Rocklin.
