The Blue Devils beat the Enochs High Eagles in the first round of the Sac-Joaquin playoffs 11-1 on May 8.

Senior Caden Castles began the game strong on the mound and in the batter’s box, striking out one in the top of the first inning and giving Davis its first hit.

Senior Alex Kieffer stepped up to the plate on the bottom of the first and delivered a line drive to center field that brought one run home to score, putting Davis up on the leaderboard.

Castles continued his dominance on the mound by striking out one in the second, and three batters in the third.

However, Enochs broke through Davis’ strong defense with an inside-the-park home run to score their first run in the third inning.

Junior Will Donald did not let Enochs’ defense rest and hit a double to left field, bringing junior Max O’Geen to score for Davis’s sixth run of the game.

“We all knew this could have been our last game,” senior Jackson Moore said. “Today, we played with the idea of earning the next game, and earning another day with each other.”

Davis added three more runs in the bottom of the fifth and sixth innings, ending the game early in the sixth inning due to the CIF Sac-Joaquin Section 10-run rule.

“Today they understood the moment,” Coach Ethan Guevin said. “So once we got rid of those playoff jitters that everyone has and we settled in, we were able to execute the game plan.”
