Davis High’s men’s baseball team won their second playoff game on May 9, coming back from a 4-0 deficit to beat Granite Bay with a final score of 8-6.

Granite Bay started the game hot, scoring four runs in the first inning. During the season, the Devils bested Granite Bay twice in two close games.

Davis responded quickly, though, with senior Cade Castles batting a double leading the way in a Blue Devil push that would result in three runs at the end of the first.

In the second inning, junior Will Donald scored a run to tie the game at 4-4.

Granite Bay was not done yet, though, scoring two runs in the fourth, including an impressive home run. Again, Davis quickly responded with senior Aiden Larson and senior Eli Burnham both hitting doubles to tie the game once again at 6-6 to end the 4th.

The second half of the game was lower scoring, partly thanks to a strong pitching performance put on by senior Charlie Sheridan. Sheridan struck out six over the course of the final four innings, preventing any late pushes from Granite Bay. The Devils would go on to win the game 8-6.

“We knew that the first inning wasn’t going to be the deciding inning,” head coach Ethan Guevin said. “We’ll use that experience moving forward, knowing that we can accomplish success in those tight situations.”

Senior Evan Lanier points to a specific moment where he felt the momentum shift. “That double by Cade in the first brought us back in it, and then we just continued to execute from there,” he said.
