Roughly 60 sophomore students gathered on the gym floor at Davis High on Tuesday, meeting new faces for the first time at sophomore orientation.
However, for student leaders in Blue Devil Connect organizing the event, even getting there was a task of its own.
“We had a couple setbacks,” said senior Liz Brehler, president of Blue Devil Connect, “(next year, we would) pull up with speakers. We definitely wanted to have music.”
In the gym, students played various games to get to know each other. Cheers and balloons being popped filled the small gym during a balloon relay.
Later, the sophomores received a tour of the DHS campus in groups.
“The tour was very helpful,” sophomore Maydalena Knettle said.
One by one, groups returned to the gym after the tours for one final game of musical chairs.
Even without speakers, student leaders animated the space by singing children’s songs.
“Leaders stepped up and made it possible,” Brehler said.
