Davis High’s varsity field hockey hosted its annual Pink-Out game against Lassen, winning 4-0, on Oct. 21.
Coming back from two weeks with no games, the Blue Devils hit off the first quarter with possession, taking it slow. Senior Emma Donadio had an impressive save to keep the game scoreless.
Davis picked up speed in the second quarter and began shooting on Lassen’s goalkeeper. Midfielder senior Sofia Garcia scored the first goal of the game, with a powerful assist from defensive midfielder senior Bridget Berland. The first half ended 1-0, with no more goals scored.
Davis spent most of the game on Lassen’s end of the field, not allowing them to have the ball for an extended amount of time. After Lassen’s players saved a goal in the third quarter, they took possession, but midfielder senior Madeleine Kelsey stole the ball back and worked it up the field once again.
“As a team, we improved our tackles at the end (…); we stopped them in the defense,” Garcia said.
During the third quarter, forward midfielder junior Kate Loscutoff scored the second goal of the game, assisted by forward midfielder senior Alana Clifford, picking up the speed of the game. “We really improved on our corners, which we worked on a lot this week,” Garcia said.
Berland spent the third quarter weaving the ball back up the field through Lassen’s defense, resulting in another corner. Off of this, Garcia assisted Loscutoff in her second goal of the quarter. “We saw a lot of what we worked on in practice that we were able to execute in the game, so I am really proud of that,” Loscutoff said.
Defensive midfielder junior Vayla Bhinder scored the final goal of the game in another corner with just minutes to spare.
The Blue Devils finished out their final home game of the season strong, with a win 4-0. “We weren’t there today at the start, but we made up for it,” assistant coach Pasindu Wanigasooriya said.
