Davis women’s varsity volleyball lost against its rival team St. Francis 3-0 after an intense Senior Night game on Oct. 22.

The game was preceded by the Senior Night ceremony. Each graduating Blue Devil was escorted by family across the court and celebrated by teammates and fans.

Davis kicked off the game with an early score, but were quickly countered by St. Francis. A heated back-and-forth ensued, each team alternating leads for just a few points. After a lengthy rally, seniors Maddy Shull and Bella Garma-Murphy scored for DHS.

The momentum came to a halt when St. Francis won the first set. Despite more close rallies in the third set, SF claimed victory.

“There was a lot more heart going into it from the bench and in the game because this could have been our last game,” senior Kate Wells said. “St. Francis is our rival team, so we had a lot of energy tonight.”

Wells and teammate senior Mia Salvemini were a powerful duo throughout the game, scoring multiple points for the Blue Devils with strong blocks.

“St. Francis is probably the team we’ve played most in history,” head coach Isaac Rivera said.

The game marks the end of the team’s official season, but women’s varsity is now heading into postseason single-elimination playoffs, where they may have the chance to compete against SF again.

“I’m going to miss (the seniors’) energy the most. It will be hard without them,” junior Mikayla Meyer said.
