The Davis High varsity women’s water polo team crushed Rocklin High 18-2 on Oct. 22.

Davis celebrated its senior night, honoring seniors Gabby Chehrezad, Abby Campbell and Mieke Heiser at their last league home game. “I’m going to miss the funny jokes and positivity the seniors bring to the team,” sophomore Coco Waterson said.

The game started as the players rushed to grab the ball first at the center of the pool. Davis secured the ball, with sophomore Katie Tapio scoring in the first couple of minutes. Then she scored again a minute later to give Davis a promising 2-0 lead.

Both teams played hard, but Davis scored five more goals and defended to keep Rocklin from scoring. Chehrezad was out the whole season due to injury, but played goalkeeper for their last league game.

Davis and Rocklin players jumped back into the pool to continue the game. They were able to secure their first goal of the game.

Davis responded, with freshman Harper Seto and Ireland Greenway scoring to end the first half.

After another break, Davis began the second half up 10-1. In the last seconds of the third quarter, junior Jessie Walker scored as the buzzer went off, but the ref claimed it was shot after the buzzer, leaving Davis players and fans annoyed at the close call. Davis scored six goals in the third quarter, unanswered by Rocklin.

To finish off the senior night, Davis triumphed, scoring two more goals, while Rocklin scored one.

Preparing for sections, Davis continues to train to face difficult teams. “We had a tough game Monday, so we were hoping to have an easier game this time,” coach Jammy Wright said.
