Davis dominates St. Francis 8-1 on Senior Night

Davis High’s women’s varsity tennis team added another victory to its successful season on Senior Night, winning 8-1 against St. Francis High.

Davis is currently ranked third in the league, while St. Francis follows in fourth. “There’s not a whole lot (of significance for this game), we just keep our seed, and it’s just nice to have a win for these girls on their Senior Night,” coach Sally Hosley said.

After losing four consecutive points during a challenging first set, senior Ciara Wallace pushed through and made a comeback in her singles match. “It was a good end to my last league match, I won 7-5 and 6-2,” Wallace said.

Despite being a varsity team, Davis consists of many skilled sophomores. “I know next year is going to be really good,” Wallace said.

Sophomore Sydney Sargent double faulted a couple of times, but was able to come through with three additional points. She finished strongly with scores of 6-4 and 6-3 in her singles matches.

“I just love this team, all the seniors are so inclusive and the whole team feels cohesive and everyone is just nice to each other,” Sargent said, “We’re always picking each other up when we’re down, and it’s just a really great dynamic.”
