Davis High’s men’s varsity basketball team put on a dominant performance in its first home game, defeating Woodland High 86-37 in a non-league matchup on Dec. 8.

Davis jumped to a 21-10 lead after the first quarter, fueled by sophomore Rhys Crawford, who scored 26 points total including back-to-back dunks and later a tip-in that put Davis firmly in control.

Davis kept its lead 48-23 by halftime, which was highlighted by Crawford’s poster dunk and windmill slam.

In the third quarter, senior Ahmere Bradley delivered key defensive stops, including a block that resulted in a fast-break layup by senior Elijah Schwecky. Davis continued with a series of transition plays, layups, and put-back shots leaving them with their dominant victory.

“We played hard,” head coach Steven Smith said. “For our first home game, with the nerves and excitement, I thought we played well.”

Crawford said the blowout reflected the team’s mindset. “It was a statement win,” he said. “We wanted to show what’s to come.”

Bradley added that the win set the tone for their upcoming game on Dec. 9. “It’s motivation,” he said. “We need momentum.”
