Article by Cameron Pund

Davis High’s women’s varsity soccer team tied Whitney High 0-0 on Jan. 27.

The Blue Devils generated multiple scoring chances early, putting pressure on Whitney’s defense throughout the first half.

Senior Jordan Meade tested the goalkeeper with a shot in the 21st minute, but it was blocked to keep the match scoreless.

Senior Izzy Churchward remained active on the right side, pushing the attack and earning a corner kick in the 17th minute. Later in the first half, Churchward delivered a corner that found senior Madison Lujan, whose shot narrowly missed.

Both teams tightened defensively in the second half, limiting clear opportunities. Churchward took a free kick in the 32nd minute, while senior Isabella Hazel added another free kick attempt midway through the half.

Whitney threatened on the counterattack, but Davis’ defense held firm. Senior Caitlyn Garcia cleared a dangerous ball near the Davis goal in the 26th minute, preserving the clean sheet.

“We noticed their center backs were really aggressive,” Garcia said. “So we exploited the wide spaces because our players are fast and crafty.”

Head coach Sara Stone credited the team’s structure despite missed chances.

“Our goal was to play our system and make them adjust,” Stone said. “We’re creating chances, but we have to finish them.”

With the tie, Davis remains undefeated as it moves closer to the postseason.

“It’s not a win,” Garcia said. “But staying undefeated and not conceding any goals is still a win for the team.”
