Women’s ski team dominates, men come in third

The Davis High ski team competed in a giant slalom race at Boreal Mountain Resort for the final race of the regular season. The women placed first, while the men placed third behind Colfax High School and Nevada Union High School.
“It was a short course today, so it was a lot harder because the margins were a lot smaller,” junior Martin Rejmanek said.
Rejmanek led the men’s team in 7th place, and was followed closely by juniors Eli Brenner and Robbie DenDulk, who placed 13th and 14th, respectively.
The women won by a close margin, beating rival team Nevada Union by three points. Sophomore Annabelle Nourot had a standout performance, placing fourth for the team–a personal best finish.
“There were definitely some tricky turns, and some turns up at the top that got a little bit bumpy, but I thought it was a really fun course,” Nourot said.
The team now looks forward to state championships, which will take place at Sugar Bowl Resort on March 4 and 5.
“I’m really looking forward to pushing myself and seeing how my results compare to the rest of the people in the state,” Nourot said.
Through the competitive atmosphere, a bittersweet feeling permeated the air. Rows of posters lined the finish area, honoring every senior in the Central 2 division.
“It was definitely a surprise to me,” said senior Reese Watterson. “We don’t usually have a senior night, so it was very nice.”
In addition to the posters, the seniors upheld the unique tradition of dressing up for their last race, donning sparkly blue tutus over their race gear.
“The tutus are a fun tradition that got lost somewhere between freshman year and this year, so I am happy to bring them back and pass them on to next year’s racers,” Watterson said.
