The Davis High varsity men’s tennis team dominated against the Pleasant Valley Vikings on Feb. 25.
“I’m very excited about this season, we’re very young with only one senior and three juniors with the rest being sophomores and freshmen,” head coach Dale Hersch said. “We have great team chemistry so I can’t wait to see what this will bring for our team.”
Davis started off strong, with a lead in all nine matches. “Even though it is just a pre-season match, this lead shows we have a deep team throughout all matches, and it’s going to take a lot for other teams (to beat us),” assistant coach Max Bauer said.
The Blue Devils dominated their No. 2 singles match and No. 1 doubles matches with both ending in wins just 30 minutes after starting.
Sophomore George Vougiouka won his match 8-2. “Getting back on the court after the off-season felt great, I’m excited to see what’s in store for us this season and how far we’ll go,” Vougiouka said.
No. 1 singles player junior Nason Wessel finished shortly after winning his match 8-1. “I feel like this was a good start to this season. We’re not as strong as last season, but we have positive energy and I think we will go far,” Wessel said.
The game ended with Davis winning all nine matches.
