The Davis High men’s varsity volleyball team fell to Granite Bay 3-1 on March 4.

Coming off a 3-0 loss to Folsom on March 2, Davis entered the match seeking redemption but faced a Granite Bay team that came off a 3-2 win over Oak Ridge.

The Blue Devils started strong, showing energy from the opening serve. The Davis bench remained on its feet throughout the first set, chanting as the team built momentum.

“The energy in the first set was immaculate, but about halfway into the second set, we lost momentum, and they took control of the game,” senior Bryce Morrow said.

Davis led for most of the first set and eventually pulled away late, scoring seven straight points to secure a 25–18 first-set win. Senior Mohammad Reggad delivered several key blocks at the net during the stretch.

Granite Bay responded in the second set. Davis held an early 11-9 lead, but Granite Bay battled back and eventually took control. The teams remained tied late before Granite Bay overtook Davis 25-23 to even the set score.

Senior Ryan Buzbee said the team came out strong but struggled to maintain the same consistency throughout.

“We played really well in the first set,” Buzbee said. “But our energy kind of dipped throughout the game.”

Granite Bay carried its momentum into the third set, jumping out to an early lead and maintaining control to win 25-15. The fourth set followed a similar pattern, as Granite Bay again pulled ahead early and finished with another 25–15 win to secure the match.

“At our best, we are one of the best teams in Northern California,” head coach Isaac Rivera said. “The matter is whether we’re able to maintain that.”

Davis will look to bounce back at Whitney on March 9.
