Davis wins last nonleague game 7-6 against Dixon

Davis High varsity softball went head-to-head against Dixon High in a tough battle, winning 7-6. 

In the first inning, sophomore Layla Duarte started the game pitching. Dixon was able to score two runs, ending the first inning 2-1.

Junior Lily Lingbloom scored the first run for Davis on an error from Dixon’s first baseman.

In the bottom of the second, Duarte hit a home run off to left field. Soon after, sophomore Lilah Shapiro hit a double, sacrificing the out so that two of her teammates could advance to home, giving Davis a 4-2 lead.

No runs were scored until the fifth inning when Dixon scored a point on a single. During the sixth inning, Dixon scored a point off a triple, making the score 5-4 with Dixon in the lead.

At the beginning of the seventh inning, Davis was down 6-4 to Dixon. The team was able to score two runs from junior Sophia Basset and sophomore Gracie Martinez, tying the score 6-6. 

“The focus was right there. We had good at-bats after at-bat,” head coach Tyler Gibson said.

It was really a credit to everyone in the lineup at that last inning for making it happen.”

In the last play of the game, sophomore Madison Hunter made a sacrifice out so that Lingbloom could score the winning run, ending the game 7-6 for Davis.

“We really rallied together as a team,” Duarte said. “I think that was a collective team effort, and all of us really put our effort into that last play.”
